Instagram goes all out with face filters, erasers and more!

After launching its Snapchat-esque Stories, adding disappearing live video and DMs less than a year ago, Instagram made a new and much-anticipated announcement of its latest update within Stories today; Face Filters.

Allowing Instagrammers to play around with eight different filters, the new addition will certainly be familiar to many, with the filters working with front and rear cameras, able to be applied on up to two people at a time, and be sent as personal messages or added to your Story. The new face filters feel sophisticated and stable on Instagram, and even work with glasses, something they often had trouble coping with over on Snapchat - an added bonus!

Filters can also be applied to Boomerang posts making them that bit more interactive, and other options such as; “Rewind” made an appearance - allowing Instagrammers to play videos in reverse and “defy the laws of physics”, as well as hashtag stickers that can be added via the stickers icon and will serve as normal hashtags, linking to wider conversations.

Ever since Stories were introduced, there has been a set of brushes that users have been using all year round – and some that have been seasonally added. From today, there’s a new brush added to that core set: the eraser. This not only lets the users’ creativity go wild, but it also gives Instagrammers the freedom to erase details, instead of undoing the whole creation.

As we saw recently, Instagram Stories now has 200 million daily active users, overtaking Snapchat altogether. With today’s more playful new feature launch, Insta has solidified its place as the leader in the market and we’ll be keeping an eye on developments from the competition. Can Snapchat outmaneuver Instagram now?
